Friday Photo: Verraux’s Eagle

This photo of Verreaux’s Eagle (or The Black Eagle) was taken at Raptor Ridge on the edge of the Drakensberg Mountains. Here, it swooped down from several thousand feet, appearing from out of the sun to avoid detection. It’s one of the largest eagles in South Africa, and was seen last week for the first time here on UmPhafa.
